The ever-growing trend of freelance services across a multitude of creative industries is starting to set foot in the legal field, offering new opportunities for both solicitors and their clientele. Here’s a brief interview with Davide Palazzo, Founder of Palazzo Law Boutique.
A little bit about me
My name is Davide Palazzo, and I am a freelance lawyer or virtual attorney specialised in corporate matters, M&A, and commercial contracts. I currently live and work in London. After graduating from the UCSC International and earning a master in international law, I saw a lack of options for people to get legal assistance for their families and businesses.
As a licensed lawyer in Italy and UK, I provide that legal assistance for a reasonable cost. Through new technologies rather than traditional means I can keep operational costs low. Therefore, I can pass that lower cost along to the clients who needed it.
Why have you decided to work as a freelance lawyer?
When I decided to step into freelancing, I was working as head of the commercial department in a leading city law firm in London. I had a lot of gratifications, a respectable position, and everything I needed to pursue a great career within such firm. However, I missed the ability to dictate the type of work, its volume, and its location. Too many commitments, too high pressure. Therefore, it slowly came the time to wondering about my work-life balance: shall I go on or try something different? In such moment, freelancing appeared to me as more than just an attractive solution. It was the only way through which I could regain my ability to dictate my own work. By developing my Firm as a Virtual law firm model, I try to fit both clients’ and lawyers’ needs.
What are the main benefits of freelancing?
Through freelancing, I have achieved the right compromise between my work and personal life. Hence, I can work from virtual offices, co-working spaces or from home, according to my clients’ needs. As far as I concern, I can perform better and uniquely offer a high-quality legal service alienated with my skill set.
Why should clients rely on a lawyer working on a freelance basis?
Without a doubt, hiring a freelancer solicitor will save you additional financial costs attributed to full-time employment. This means that you will only pay for the task at hand. Given how costly legal fees can be, freelance lawyers can be more flexible in choosing their own hourly rate. Moreover, they can evaluate their services on a case-by-case basis.
Flexibility and Availability
Freelance attorneys can manage their workload and prioritise tasks more efficiently. As such, they have the ability to choose their own working hours and be therefore available at any time.
The advance of modern technologies is pushing law firms toward new perspective. Independent solicitors have become a promising addition to the industry as an alternative, accessible and efficient way of seeking professional legal advice.
